Wind Resource Assessment is an essential part of the wind project development process: an exact quantification and characterization of the fuel supply of a wind project is necessary in order to optimally design a wind project and to provide the investors with the necessary confidence in the financial feasibility of a project.
Atlantic Renewable's wind resource assessment starts with analyzing existing wind data that is available publicly in such sources as the NREL wind atlas and/or privately-held wind data that Atlantic Renewable will acquire. For example, in 1999, Atlantic Renewable acquired the wind data (and met towers) from Conservation Consultants, a non-profit group from Pittsburgh that conducted a state-wide wind resource assessment program in Pennsylvania.
Based upon above-mentioned wind data, Atlantic Renewable will generate more detailed wind maps for specific regions with the help of computer models, such as WAsP, WindMap, etc. In the following you will find a sample wind map of a specific region.
