Somerset Windpower LLC

The 9 MW Somerset Wind Project was initiated by Atlantic Renewable with Zilkha Renewable Energy brought in as a co-development partner. The project is owned and operated by FPL Energy LLC and went into commercial operation in mid October 2001. In the following you will find an extensive project description.

The Somerset project is a 9 MW project in the southwestern part of Pennsylvania near the town of Somerset. The Somerset project will offer unmatched visibility and associated promotional benefits, as it is located in a prominent location only one-half mile from the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Every day, ten of thousands of people will enjoy an impressive view of the project. The project will be interconnected with the PJM power pool via a 23.6 kilovolt (kV) GPU-Penelec line located directly adjacent to the project site and a 115 kV substation located in Somerset. The project utilizes six 1.5 MW wind turbine supplied and installed by GE Wind LLC. The project is now under commercial operation.
