Madison Windpower LLC

Atlantic Renewable chose a location in Madison, NY as our initial project, as its smaller size and easy utility interconnection made it an especially good site—i.e., can be permitted and built within a short time frame.

The Madison wind power plant is ample evidence of Atlantic Renewable's ability to succeed in the new competitive marketplace. We started developing this project in mid-1998, working with the local farmers who own the hilltop on which this project will be built. For this project Atlantic Renewable undertook all aspects of development: site selection, conclusion of wind leases, wind resource evaluation, local permitting, local legal, meteorological tower installation, surveying, bird and wildlife evaluations, town board relations, preliminary design and engineering, and the preliminary utility interconnect. Atlantic Renewable's ability to develop this wind project—the first commercial-scale wind project to be built in New York—was recognized by the New York Energy Research and Development Authority ("NYSERDA"), which selected the Madison project in early 1999 as a winner in the NYSERDA recent competitive wind power solicitation.

In early 1999 Atlantic Renewable brought into the Madison project, as our late stage development partner, PG&E Generating, of Bethesda, Maryland. Later in 1999, PG&E Gen elected to purchase our rights to this project, and they completed this project during the Summer of 2000 for commercial operation that started by September 2000. This project utilizes seven Vestas V66 1.65 MW WTGs. You will find more detailed information on the Madison project on the website of Pure Wind, PG&E's Green Power product that is produced by the Madison wind project.
