FirstEnergy Solutions to Purchase Wind Power from Meyersdale Wind Power, LLC
Somerset County, Pennsylvania (May 7, 2003) - Meyersdale Windpower , LLC, today announced that FirstEnergy Solutions Corp., a competitive subsidiary of Akron, Ohio-based FirstEnergy Corp. has entered into an agreement to purchase all of the electricity output from the 30 -megawatt (MW) Meyersdale Windpower Project for a period of 20 years. FirstEnergy Solutions provides electricity to retail customers in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and New Jersey. Meyersdale Windpower LLC is a partnership between Atlantic Renewable Energy Corporation of Richmond, Virginia, and Zilkha Renewable Energy of Houston, Texas.
Located in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, the Meyersdale Windpower Project will consist of 20 1.5-megawatt wind turbine generators. The Meyersdale Windpower Project is currently in an advanced stage of development. Construction is intended to start later this year, with an anticipated on-line date of the fall of 2003. The Meyersdale Project will provide enough wind-powered renewable energy to meet the needs of more than 10,000 Pennsylvania households.
